Transportation is one of the biggest contributors of greenhouse gas emissions in Bend and our current transportation system does not meet the needs of everyone. We need to envision a transportation system that reflects our needs in the 21st century. A balanced transportation system is key to achieving Bend’s greenhouse gas reduction goals and will support an economically vibrant community that protects public health and the environment, helps reduce congestion and ensures that all residents can get where they need to go.
I call on the members of the Bend City Council to adopt a balanced Transportation System Plan that is safe and healthy for Central Oregon’s residents and environment; prioritizes investments in walking, biking, and transit networks; and improves equity by better serving low-income, minority, disabled and other historically underserved populations.
