The Bristol Bay watershed in the southwestern corner of Alaska is home to one of the last great wild salmon fisheries in the world. The area’s wild salmon are critical to local communities and businesses, to the tribes who have depended on salmon for their way of life, and to the multimillion dollar fishing industry.
However, the proposed Pebble Mine, a large open-pit copper and gold mine, threatens to destroy this fishery and thousands of acres of wetlands. This mine would be one of the largest hard rock mines in the world, would require the largest earthen dam in the world, and has the potential to generate more waste than any mine in U.S. history. Not only that, it's proposed for an active seismic region right in the heart of the world’s most important salmon stronghold. That’s why the House joined me to stop the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from allowing this project to move forward - but we must now convince the Senate to do the same.
The Pebble Mine is yet another example of the Trump administration putting private business before the needs of the American people. Add your name and join me in demanding that the Pebble Mine project be halted immediately!
