Thursday, October 5, 2017, Washington Court Hotel, 525 New Jersey Ave NW, Washington, DC
Reception begins at 6:00 PM, followed by awards ceremony.
Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) has the distinct honor of celebrating progressive leaders for over 70 years at our annual awards reception. It has been our privilege to honor liberal giants like Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Senator Sherrod Brown, and former Labor Secretary Robert Reich.
Join us Thursday, October 5th in Washington, DC as we celebrate seven decades of action, honor progressive heroes, and support our path forward building the Resistance.
Our 2017 Honorees are:
Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) has long been a strong voice for equality and justice. We are delighted to honor him with the 2017 Frances Perkins Award for your progressive leadership.
ADA is proud to honor Immigrant Rights Advocates Fighting Trump's Ban and have representatives of the Dulles Justice Coalition and the Legal Aid Justice Center join us at the event.
The Dulles Justice Coalition is a non-partisan alliance of attorneys, advocates & legal orgs fighting for democracy and justice at Dulles. Attorney Sirine Shebaya, an active member and catalyst on the Trump ban work there, helped recruit and dispatch legal help to families and travelers impacted by the Trump travel ban. Sirine will join us to accept this honor and share updates on the movement.
The Legal Aid Justice Center is a Virginia based organization that provides legal aid and assistance in seeking justice for underserved individuals and communities. Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, Legal Director for Legal Aid Justice Center's Immigrant Advocacy Program, helped file one of the first legal challenges to the Trump Ban leading to temporary restraining orders effecting stopping the ban. Simon will also join us.
Chuck Jones, former president of United Steelworkers Local 1999, has spent his life working hard and fighting for good American jobs. But when Donald Trump used his brothers and sisters in Indiana as a dishonest backdrop to tout false job numbers, Chuck spoke out. At a time when the Resistance was just forming, Chuck's calling out Trump's lies emboldened truth, sparked the Resistance and Chuck continues to speak out today.
For 70 years, Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) has organized, educated, and won progressive change. We are dedicated to long-term building of the movement so we can overcome Trumpism. Join us October 5th in DC to celebrate our honorees, our 70 years of action, and support our work in the years to come.
