Over six years ago
it was discovered that high levels of formaldehyde (a known cancer-causing chemical) in keratin smoothing treatments like Brazilian Blowout were endangering the health of salon workers and clients.
Countries like Canada, France, Ireland, and Australia took swift action to protect public health by recalling hair smoothing products that contained formaldehyde. After all, formaldehyde is a dangerous chemicals that can cause acute health problems like dizziness, difficulty breathing, burning in eyes, nose, and throat and even cancer.
Yet, in the United States formaldehyde hair straighteners are STILL legal and as a result, salon workers and their clients are at risk for serious health impacts.
Please join us in asking the FDA to use its authority to seize toxic hair-straightening products and to ban formaldehyde from cosmetics, as many other countries have already done.
