Dear Governor Kemp and Georgia Leaders,

We, Georgia women and men, are writing to request that you firmly oppose HB 481, which would effectively ban all abortions in Georgia. This legislation would have disastrous implications for the health and freedom of women in our state.

Health care decisions must be left to a woman, her family, and her doctor—not politicians. This bill would turn back the clock on Georgia women, restricting our basic right to control our own bodies by involving lawmakers and even law enforcement in the most private and often wrenching decisions about our reproductive health.

And it would do nothing to improve public health in Georgia—recently ranked 50th out of 50 states for maternal health. In fact, Georgia medical professionals oppose this bill because it would have the opposite effect, potentially delaying or denying even medically necessary abortions and discouraging qualified doctors from practicing in our state.

As Dr. Melissa Kottke, who serves on the advisory board of Georgia's OB-GYN Society, said as the House deliberated this bill, “it's extremely dangerous for lawmakers to presume that they're better equipped than women and their health care providers to judge what is appropriate medical care.

This bill prioritizes an extreme political agenda over Georgia women’s health.

This bill is also flatly unconstitutional, and in passing it, it would trigger a lengthy, unnecessary court battle at taxpayers’ expense.

We ask that you recognize that women’s ability to control our own bodies is essential to our rights, health and well-being. We ask that you stand with us and women and men all throughout the 7th Congressional district, Gwinnett County and the state of Georgia to firmly oppose this legislation.

Sincerely,

[YOUR NAME]
